Deborah Hakes, 73

Deborah Kay Hakes, age 73, of White Pigeon, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, February 15, 2026, at Wolf Rivers Assisted Living Facility in Three Rivers.

She was born August 10, 1952 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Fayevella (Harker) Schuster. Deborah resided most of her life in White Pigeon, coming from Sturgis, where she was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the Class of 1970.

On May 26, 1972, she married the love of her life, Norman Hakes, in Sturgis. Deborah retired in 2018 from Coachman Industries in Middlebury, following over 30 years of dedicated employment as a buyer.

Deborah enjoyed cooking, and her baking skills will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her. She loved shopping, especially with her daughter, and vacationing in South Haven. Her dogs and cats held a special place in her heart. Deborah was truly happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her beloved grandsons.

She is survived by her loving husband, Norman Hakes; daughter, Melissa (Ryan) Grant of White Pigeon; grandsons, Cole (Robyn) Grant of Hudsonville and Carter (Estefania) Grant of White Pigeon; great-granddaughter, Adele Grant; sister, Barbara Carreras of Deming, New Mexico; and brother-in-law, Michael Carreras of Park Forest, Illinois.

In honoring Deborah’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial donations would be appreciated to the Animal Rescue Fund, P.O. Box 593, Centreville, MI 49032.
