Sewer mains cleaning project begins

Three Rivers Public Services Director Amy Roth said the department is scheduled to begin a preventative-maintenance cleaning on sewer mains located in the 2nd District.

The area is located south and east of the St. Joseph River.

Roth said work will start Monday and is expected to be completed in a month.

She explained that cleaning is completed with high-pressure water jets. During work on the sewer, some residents may experience an odor emanating from in-home drains.

To reduce the chances of odor, Roth suggested adding water to all floor drains and to keep toilet lids closed. Roth said if an odor is persistent, try placing a towel between the toilet seat and its lid.
