Marijuana tax revenue to be distributed locally

Six governmental entities in St. Joseph County will soon receive tax revenue collected from marijuana sales in Michigan.

According to the Michigan Department of Treasury, tax funds collected through sales at recreational marijuana dispensaries are to be distributed to 114 cities, 39 villages, 81 townships and 75 counties throughout the state.

In St. Joseph County, Sturgis and Three Rivers – which each have seven licenses – will receive close to $380,000 apiece.

Constantine, with three licenses, is in line for more than $160,000.

Meanwhile, White Pigeon and Burr Oak, both villages with one license, will land more than $54,000 each.

St. Joseph County itself is due more than $1 million, while Cass County, as a governmental entity, will be paid nearly $380,000.

Sales at recreational marijuana dispensaries in Michigan declined by 3 percent last year compared to 2024. Total sales statewide last year were more than $3.1 billion.
