William F. Durbin, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the age of 85 in White Pigeon. Born on June 6, 1940 in Battle Creek, Bill was a man whose humor, creativity, and generous spirit brought joy to everyone he encountered.
Bill’s life was marked by his dedication to his family, his passion for creating and fixing things, and an innate desire to help others. He will be lovingly remembered by children, Angela Durbin, Michelle Cody, Rebecca (Kennel) Gipson, John Durbin, and Deb Kelly. Bill’s legacy continues through his 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. His sense of humor and storytelling will be fondly passed down through the generations, ensuring his memory will live on. Though he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Charlene; his parents, Donald and Dorothy Durbin and his brother, Don Durbin, Bill’s spirit is carried forward by his family, including several nieces, nephews, and extended relatives, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
A true jack-of-all-trades, Bill had an extraordinary ability to make and fix just about anything. His hands were rarely still, as he was always onto the next project, eager to solve a new problem or build something that would bring joy to those he loved. Friends and family often sought his expertise, and he always lent his skills with a smile, never expecting anything in return.
In addition to his practical skills, Bill’s sense of humor was one of his most defining characteristics. He had an uncanny ability to find a spark of joy in every situation, and his laughter was infectious. Whether he was sharing a clever joke or a funny anecdote, Bill’s wit and charm never failed to lift the spirits of those around him.
As we bid farewell to a man of such character and kindness, we celebrate the indelible mark he has left on our lives. William F. Durbin’s story is one of love, laughter, and selflessness—a narrative that will be recounted with fondness and pride by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His was a life well-lived, filled with moments of connection, creativity, and care that will resonate for years to come.
