A Centreville Elementary School teacher won a competition staged by the Detroit Red Wings hockey club.
Special education teacher Alyssa Henneman was one of three teachers from a field of 75 candidates in Michigan for the “Best in Class” teacher-recognition program, sponsored in part by Meijer.
She was awarded a pair of tickets to Saturday’s Red Wings game – Detroit’s home finale for the season – where she was announced the winner.
Henneman was awarded a $5,000 grant for school materials, a personalized Red Wings jersey, a seat at the players’ bench during warm ups, and a meet-and-greet session with center Marco Kasper and retired Red Wings legend Chris Osgood.
Her image and announcement of her win were also shown on the stadium’s Jumbotron.
