Donna Marie Sears, age 68, of Sturgis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, surrounded by her loving family. Her passing leaves a profound emptiness, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She was born May 9, 1957 in Williston, North Dakota a daughter of the late Jerold and Florence E. (Tenold) Peterson.
On July 21, 1973 in Thorton, Colorado she married Kerry Sinclair Sears.
Donna was a true book lover, and her passion for reading was evident throughout her life. She spent many hours at Read-Mor Book Store, which later became Lowry’s Book Store, where she was employed and formed lasting bonds with colleagues and customers alike. Her love of books was only rivaled by her deep admiration for John Wayne, and she spent years collecting memorabilia that paid tribute to the iconic actor. When she wasn’t reading or adding to her collection, Donna enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including quiet moments spent relaxing with her family and friends.
Surviving are her husband: Kerry; one son: Christopher J. Sears; one daughter: Nicole (Richard) Dudek of Sturgis, MI; a grandson: Wyatt Dudek of Sturgis, MI; a brother: Bruce W. Peterson of Westminster, CO; two sisters: Sandra (David) Fleming and Sue Lynn Peterson all of Englewood, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Donna M. Sears will be held at a later date to be announced by the Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis.
