Liberty Bell award recipient named

St. Joseph County Bar Association has announced the winner of its annual “Liberty Bell” award.

The Centreville-based association has selected Tabitha Wedge, 3B District Court administrator/magistrate, as its 2026 recipient. Wedge follow’s last year’s Liberty Bell Award winners, WLKM radio of Three Rivers and WMSH radio of Sturgis.

Wedge has served St. Joseph County Courts for nearly 40 years, starting while still a senior at Centreville High School. A past president of the Michigan Association of Court Administrators, Wedge was named Michigan’s Court Administrator of the Year in 2024.

The Liberty Bell Award was created in 1985 and is given to a non-lawyer, individual, or organization who has made an outstanding contribution to the community in several areas.

A presentation of the 41st annual award will take place at 9 a.m. Thursday in the third-floor commissioners’ room in the Historic Court Building. The ceremony will be presided by St. Joseph County Bar Association President Ross Truckey.
