Strong winds knock out power to county buildings

Monday’s strong winds took their toll on county services in St. Joseph County this week.

Erin Goff, from the county’s administrator’s office, said loss of power forced a number of county agencies to close Tuesday and Wednesday.

In light of the power outage that struck Centreville late Monday, non-emergency county buildings in the village were closed for the day Tuesday.

By Wednesday, power was restored to parts of the village, including the Historic Courthouse and Annex I.

However, power to Annex II, as well as the buildings that house animal control and the county’s training center, had not been restored by Wednesday morning. As a result, services in those buildings were not offered for a second consecutive day.

Goff said those services will resume when power returns, potentially as soon as today.
