Driver injured in Branch County crash

Weather may have been a factor in a car-versus-deer collision earlier this week in Branch County’s Algansee Township.

Sheriff Fred Blankenship said deputies were called shortly before 10:30 a.m. Monday to South Ray Quincy Road, near Lester Road, in response to a crash with injury. Investigators said a car driven northbound on South Ray Quincy Road swerved to avoid colliding with a deer. The vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

Deputies found the vehicle, a 2019 Kia Sorento, with its driver’s side pinned to the ground.

Authorities said slippery roads due to rain could have contributed to the vehicle leaving the roadway.

The driver was transported to Insight Hospital & Medical Center in Coldwater.
