A millage request a couple of weeks ago at an Allegan County school district ended in a dead heat.
Hopkins Public Schools saw its appeal for a $110 million bond deadlock at 1,091 votes each way.
Hopkins Township Clerk Stacey Timmer said she was in disbelief after noticing the unusual result.
Timmer said it was the largest turnout she has seen for a school election in Hopkins. The referendum, however, failed by default, as a tie vote means the request does not pass because it has to have the majority vote.
Timmer said the situation is a reminder that every vote matters.
