Augustus Mart “Gus” Harrell Jr., age 80, of Marcellus, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026 at The Orchards of Three Rivers. He was born February 18, 1946 in Decatur, the son of Augustus M. and Sarah E. (Long) Harrell Sr.
Gus worked at Welch’s in Lawton for many years as a specialized mechanic. His conscientiousness and eye for detail kept the lines moving smoothly.
On August 5, 1989 Gus married the love of his life, Beth Swartz, whom he met at Welch’s.
He loved his dogs, his cars – especially his ’67 Chevy SuperSport – and being outside. Deer hunting and watching the water brought him great joy.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Beth Harrell; daughters, Margaret Elizabeth Harrell-Page (Bud) and Monica Gail Kreitlow (John); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Augustus Mart Harrell III, and by five brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Howardsville Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hohner Funeral Home.
