A United Way fundraiser involving the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department is returning this weekend.
The second annual “Roof Sit” charity event takes place over a four-hour period starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. It takes place at the agency’s Centreville-based headquarters.
Sheriff Chad Spence said the event is being held to raise money for the Sheriff’s Fund, which supports several important programs and teams within the department and throughout the community.
Spence said funds raised help fund programs such as the K9 Unit, Drone Team, Autism Awareness, Dive and Rescue, Special-Response Team, Sheriff’s Bullet-Proof Vest Program and Victim-Services Unit.
Sheriff’s department staff, volunteers, local residents and community supporters are all encouraged to attend. Spence said the event will continue building positive relationships between the community and the agency, while supporting programs that serve St. Joseph County residents.
Donations to the St. Joseph County United Way can be made during the fundraiser.
