Cass County Sheriff Clint Roach issued a media release last week detailing an encounter with former prosecutor Victor Fitz.
Last Wednesday, Roach and Undersheriff Tim Schuur attended what they believed was going to be a press conference. Roach said he was confronted by a person as he entered the venue. Roach said he was then approached by Fitz, who advised the event was private and advised Roach to leave.
Roach said the situation is a reminder that Cass County residents should be concerned when a former elected official convenes what was publicly perceived to be a press conference. Instead, Roach alleged, access was limited and a platform to make accusations against current elected and appointed officials without allowing for transparency or open dialogue took place.
Fitz served as Cass County prosecutor for more than 20 years before he stepped down two weeks ago. He subsequently took a position with Branch County.
