Burr Oak man arrested following car-buggy crash

Four passengers in a horse-drawn buggy were injured following a crash last week in Burr Oak Township.

Sheriff Chad Spence said deputies were called shortly after 8 p.m. Friday to an area of Maystead Road, near Needham Road, in response to a car-versus-buggy collision.

Investigators said a vehicle traveling east on Maystead Road struck the rear of a horse-drawn buggy, which was also traveling east. All four occupants of the buggy were ejected, authorities said.

Three victims, a pregnant woman and two young children, were transported by helicopter to area hospitals.

Investigators said they believe drug use may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The driver of the vehicle, a 54-year-old Burr Oak man, was arrested.
