Mary M. Theisman, age 103, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Thursday afternoon, Jan. 21, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born Aug. 21, 1906 in Tamaroa, Ill., a daughter to the late John and Agnes (Ryterski) Kucharski.
Mrs. Theisman had resided in Sturgis since 1945 coming from Three Rivers. Her early life was spent in the southern Illinois and St. Louis, Mo. area. For a time following their marriage, she and Mr. Theisman lived in Chicago, Ill.
On Sept. 10, 1929, she married Lorenz Thomas Theisman in St. Louis, Mo. . He died April 29, 1989.
She had been employed by AT&T as an operator in St. Louis and after moving to Chicago she continued her work with AT&T where she taught people how to use the dial telephone.
Mrs. Theisman was an active member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church where she was amember of the women’s circle. She was a member of the Sturgis Women’s Club and the Sturgis Kiwaniqueens. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and playing Bridge and loved time spent with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Preble of Sturgis and Joan Wing of Rockwall, Texas; five grandchildren, Greg Wing of Texas, Mark Wing of California, Mike Wing of Texas, Kristin Crandall of Pennsylvania and Dana Dieter of Virginia; five great -grandchildren, Abigail Wing, Alan Crandall, Erin Crandall, Madeleine Wing and Jena Wing and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters.
The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-2331. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Mary M. Theisman will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father Richard Altine will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
