James Liggett, 74

James Charles Liggett, 74, of Three Rivers, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 at his home. James was born in Kalamazoo on March 23, 1935 the son of Horace and Doris (Stowell) Liggett. He graduated from Comstock High School in 1954, with 14 letters, All-State tackle, captain of state champion football team in 1953, ran track and played baseball. James was a NASCAR fan and an avid race fan of all types. He was married to Rae Ann Bisel; she passed away in 2005. James served two years in the US Army. He was a lifetime member of the Elks, a member of the American Legion and the Moose. He retired in 1996 from Consumer Power Co. after 42 years.

James is survived by his children, Brett Umlor of South Haven and Julie Umlor of Three Rivers; his brothers, William (Barb) Liggett of Daytona Beach, Fla., Walter Liggett of Galesburg and Art Liggett of Kalamazoo; his sisters, Audrey Bowman and Joan Liggett both of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Johnston of Venice, Fla. and Andrea Pisco of Three Rivers; seven great-grandchildren; Jesse, Jenna, Brent, Brooke, and Samantha Johnston and Deanja and Dakorray Woods; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and two sisters, Mary Muir and Donna Sutfin.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel, Three Rivers.
