Patricia Wiley Shafer, 72, of Three Rivers, went to return to her God on Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Borgess-Pipp Hospital in Plainwell. She was born in San Diego, Calif., on May 10, 1937 the daughter of Edward B. “Boppy” and Lillie May (Pearson) Wiley.
Mrs. Shafer has been a long time resident of this area. She was of the Baha’i Faith and was a very active member. She served as assistant to the auxiliary board of the Baha’i Faith. She was also active in her community, serving on the board of the George Washington Carver Center, Executive Director of the St. Joseph County Mediation Center and also taught art at the Commission on Aging. She was an avid and talented artist and poet.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Stephen Shafer.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving family, two sons, Bart Shafer of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Edward (Terry) Fatherly, and their children, Alex and Brent, of Conway, Ark.; step-son, Eric (Georgina) Shafer, and their son, Keith, of Three Rivers; one brother, Edward “Bud” (Beverly) Wiley of Palatka, Fla.; two sisters, Glenda (Donald) Cochrum and Denise Wiley, both of Hickman, Ky.; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, March 29 at the Hohner Funeral Home.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers, with Mrs. Irene Atkinson as celebrant.
Memorials may be donated to the C.O.A. of St. Joseph County, Carnegie Center for the Arts, or the George Washington Carver Center. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
