David Gale Hammond of Colon, and formerly of North Adams, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Battle Creek Health System.
He was born July 22, 1949, in Hillsdale County, a son of Dale and Eleanor (Winner) Hammond.
Mr. Hammond worked for many years as a prison guard for the State of Michigan Department of Corrections in Jackson, and later worked in the Quality Control Department at the Eaton Corporation in Three Rivers. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles.
He is survived by his mother, Eleanor “Virginia” Rhoades of Hillsdale; three daughters, Stacy (Joseph) Hodges of Quincy, Kimberly “K.C.” Saxton of Jonesville and Christina (James) Young of Jonesville; a son, David Hugh Hammond of Georgia; a stepdaughter, Francine (Richard) Nickles of Reading; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers; and a sister and his fiancee, Debbie Swafford of Colon.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother; and a grandchild.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in North Adams.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. David Gale Hammond will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Pickell officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
