Out and About – Week of May 10th

A belated Happy Mother’s Day to all of you mothers. If my mother were alive today, I’d once again thank her for giving me life. If your mother is still living, I think it would be fitting to do just that.

This is for all of the husbands, who are also fathers, who failed to provide a suitable gift for their wives, who are also mothers, last weekend on Mother’s Day. You may have a chance to redeem yourself this Saturday, May 15. If the mother of your children enjoys yard/garage sales and also loves to be taken out to lunch, here’s the solution. From 9 A.M. until 1 P.M., the residents of the Tamarac subdivision in Three Rivers will hold their annual community garage sale. Here’s the icing on the cake. St. John’s Lutheran Church, 56050 Buckhorn Road, just north of Three Rivers, will provide refreshments and rest rooms during the Tamarac garage sale for the bargain hunters. The bill of fare includes hot dogs, chips, cookies, ice cold drinks, lemonade, coffee, and tea. What more could she possibly ask for? A tasty lunch, an assortment of valuable items at bargain prices, and knowing that she has helped the economy bounce back, by shopping locally.

If you enjoyed listening to the Glenn Miller Orchestra several months ago at the Riviera Theatre, then you’ll definitely want to watch this paper for more details on the Artie Shaw Orchestra’s upcoming live performance at the Riviera on June 30. The “Big Band” sound is still alive. You just have to look a little harder to find it. Check out the Riviera Theatre’s website at www.trriviera.com for more information.

Barb Stutesman will retire next month after 42 years of teaching at Three Rivers High School. Her husband will host an open house next Sunday afternoon, May 16, from 3 until 6. The Three Rivers Lions Club, 420 Sixth Avenue in Three Rivers is where you’ll want to go to wish her the best. If you’re a friend, colleague, or a former student, she would love to see you one more time before she fades into the sunset. Ms. Wildcat is finally shelving the books.

If you have a cell phone, you might want to list ICE as one of your contacts. ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. It would be here that you could list a number that you would like to have called in case of an emergency. You’d be surprised how many people are aware of this, and if you were unconscious, someone would know whom to contact. Just an idea that you might find useful.

DJ Max Jewelry will conduct a jewelry sale this Friday, May 14, from 7 A.M. until 4:30 P.M. in the main lobby of TR Health, 701 South Health Parkway in Three Rivers. On display will be over 100 items, with most prices between $3 and $30. This is a jewelry sale like you’ve never seen before. The proceeds from this sale will go to benefit Three Rivers Health Patient Services.
