Dorothy Helen Perry, age 94, of Colon, passed away, Monday, May 10, 2010, at the Birch Adult Foster Care Home in Leonidas.
Helen was born Aug. 9, 1915, in Burr Oak, a daughter to the late Ottis R. and Grace E. (Ultz) Walters.
Helen had lived most all of her life in the Colon area, graduating from Colon High School with the class of 1932.
On June 27, 1936, she married John J. Perry in Colon, he preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2002.
Helen was an active member of the Colon Baptist Church, where she had been the church pianist and organist for 65 years; she also had been a Sunday school teacher for many years and was active in missions.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn L. (David) Farrell of Colon; three grandchildren, Kimara (Joe) Geibe of Sturgis, James (Shari) Farrell of Grand Rapids and Timothy (Brooke) Farrell of Rockford; five great-grandchildren, David, John, Benjamin, Olivia and Lincoln Farrell; two step-great grandchildren, Paige and Joe; one brother, Harold Walters of Colon; two nieces and three nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Joanna and Janet Kay.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
Funeral services celebrating the life of D. Helen Perry will be Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the Colon Baptist Church with Pastor Robert N. Baxter, Pastor Aaron A. Kaukonen and David J. Farrell officiating. A committal service and burial will follow at South Colon Cemetery.
If desired the family ask that memorials be made in memory of Helen to the Colon Baptist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
