Thomas Mittler, 67, of Three Rivers, passed away June 13, 2010 from complications relating to a stroke. He was a lucky son of a gun who did the things he wanted, his way. Born in South Bend, Ind. in 1942, Tom graduated from Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa. followed by Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
In 1967, Tom married the love of his life, Charlotte Greenleaf, with whom he fathered three children — T.G., Susie and Willy. Tom spent 1969-2007 working for Mittler Supply, started by his father George Mittler. Through creativity and vision Tom built Mittler Supply from a small mom & pop operation into one of the largest independently owned gas and welding supply chains in the country.
His main passion in life was vintage motor sports, both automobiles and wooden speed boats. Tom was an active participant in vintage races and rallies. If Tom had a bucket list, there was a line crossed through each activity. Tom loved his family and friends, traveling to see them around the world.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Greenleaf Mittler; sons, T.G. (Sally) of Santa Fe, N.M. and William (Lyndley) of Warren, Vt.; daughter Susan (Gerry) of Portland, Ore.; five grandsons; one granddaughter; his sister, Kay Hokanson of Corey Lake; four nephews; two nieces. He was surrounded by family at the time of his death. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom’s memory may be made to Camp Wakeshma or Camp Eberhart, both in Three Rivers.
