Oneda Kathryn Chapman, 85, of Three Rivers, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo. Oneda was born April 6, 1925 in White Cloud the daughter of Martin and Carolina (Schumacker) Hochstetler.
She was born into the Amish religion and converted to the Mennonite religion in her later teenage years. She was united in marriage to Mr. Max L. Chapman on Jan. 10, 1948 in Three Rivers. She has been a resident of Three Rivers for more than 60 years, and was employed at many local downtown businesses such as Three Rivers Laundry and Dry Cleaning, Combs Cleaners, Dougherty’s Bakery, and the Foster Grandparents Program of St. Joseph County. Oneda spent the majority of her years being a caretaker to her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Max L. Chapman who passed in March of 1983, and a son, William “Aaron” Chapman, Jan. 1, 1990, along with many brothers and sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving family, three daughters, Mimi Knott of Bethlehem, Pa., Frances (Rick) Butler of Three Rivers and Dawn Mead, of Portage; two sons, Ralph M. (Lori) Chapman and Darrell A. (Ellen) Chapman, both of Three Rivers; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Hohner Funeral Home.
Interment will be held in the Moorepark Cemetery.
