Joshua David Hughes, age 17. of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Tuesday afternoon Aug. 31, 2010, in Sturgis Township due to injuries sustained in a bicycle automobile accident.
He was born July 11, 1993, in Amherst, New York.
Joshua had resided in Sturgis since 2007 coming from New York. He was a member of the Sturgis Salvation Army Church and loved fishing, muscle cars and his music. He truly enjoyed the three summers he spent with his grandparents in Florida.
He is survived by his parents, Holly Hughes and Russell Guercio; one sister, Breanna Guercio and one brother, Brandon Guercio, both at home; grandparents, Terry and Julie Hughes of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Jim and Angeline Guercio of Buffalo, New York; great-grandmother, Julia Saunders of North Tonawanda, New York; uncles, Jeffrey Hughes of Australia, Steven Ngyuen of New Jersey, Chi Ngyuen of London, England, James Guercio, Jr. of Buffalo, New York and Nicholas Guercio of Williamsville, New York; aunts Summer Hughes of Tampa, Fla. and Angel Beiter of Amherst, New York and many cousins.
In accordance with wishes of the family, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 3-5:45 p.m Saturday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. A memorial service celebrating the life of Joshua Hughes will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
