Roderic Rose, 69

Roderic Louis Rose, age 69, of Sturgis, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at his home.

He was born April 27, 1941, in Lima, Ohio, a son to the late Charles H. and Beatrice E. (Heintz) Rose.

Roderic has been a resident of Sturgis since 1978 moving here from Sidney, Ohio. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Findlay, Findlay, Ohio, and also a minor in religion.

While living in Ohio he was employed as a high school teacher and basketball coach for 10 years and then at the Copeland Corporation in Sidney, Ohio. In Sturgis, he was employed as vice president of sales and marketing at the Sturgis Foundry for 23 years, retiring in Feb. 2001.

On Aug. 26, 1961, in Jackson Center, Ohio, he married Carol Ann Burch.

He was a member of the Sturgis First United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, Pleiades Chapter #298 in Sidney, Ohio, and the Jackson Center Masonic Lodge #0458 where he served as past Master. He enjoyed golf, watching sports on TV, and spending time with family.

Surviving are his wife: Carol; two daughters, Amy (Robert) Anderson of Grandville, Mich., and Julie (Jonathan) Beal of Colon, Mich.; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Matthew, and Nicklas Anderson and Allysha, Rachael, and Kaylie Beal; two brothers, Charles (Ursula) Rose of Botkins, Ohio, and Gerald (Nan) Rose of Jackson Center, Ohio; one sister, Carolyn (Robert) Milby of Sidney, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends and relatives from

2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Smith-Eicholtz Funeral Home, 214 W. Pike St., Jackson Center, Ohio, 45334 where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Services celebrating the life of Roderic L. Rose will be held at 11a.m. Thursday, at the United Methodist Church, 202 E. Pike St., Jackson Center, Ohio, 45334, with The Rev. Sylvia Hull & The Rev. James Maxwell, officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson, Ohio.

The family suggest memorial donations be directed to the Masonic Lodge, 402 N. Main St., Jackson Center, Ohio 45334, the United Methodist Church, 202 E. Pike St., Jackson Center, Ohio, 45334 or Hospice of Sturgis, P.O. Box 126, Sturgis, MI 49091.

Local arrangements are being handled by the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel.
