Nadean J. Cunico, age 91, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital.
She was born May 5, 1919, in Indiana, a daughter of the late Victor and Frieda A. (Sielof) Troyer.
Mrs. Cunico had resided in Sturgis since 2004, coming from White Pigeon.
Prior to moving to White Pigeon, she had lived in Three Rivers for many years.
Her early life was spent in Marcellus, where she graduated from Marcellus High School with the class of 1940.
On Sept. 21, 1940, she married Ercole “Duke” Cunico in Three Rivers. He died June 17, 1976.
Mrs. Cunico devoted her life to her husband and her three daughters. For several years in her later life, she worked at The Country Table restaurant in White Pigeon.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing and loved her dogs.
She is survived by three daughters, Gloria (Walter) Lowe of Goshen, Ind., Rose Mary (James) Maschke of Manchester and Carol Ann Kniffen of Sturgis; five grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Sean Johnson, Dawn Johnson, Erik Kniffen and Rebecca Kniffen; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Marion Trinkle.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Saturday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, where funeral services celebrating the life of Nadean J. Cunico will begin at 1 p.m. The Rev. Barry Sommerfield of Celebration Community Church in Sturgis will officiate.
A graveside committal will follow the service at the Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers.
Memorial donations to the family to help with expenses would be appreciated, c/o: Carol Ann Kniffen, 1301 Cato Lane, Sturgis, MI 49091. If any funds remain after expenses, they will be donated to a children’s organization in Mrs. Cunico’s memory.
