James Halter, 70

James C. Halter, 70, of Millstadt, Ill., born Oct. 21, 1939 in Huron, S.D., died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 in Albuquerque, N.M. following an automobile accident.

He was a 1957 graduate of Three Rivers High School. His sister and brother-in-law, Mike and Joyce Wagner, live in Three Rivers.

Mr. Halter was an electrical engineer, a lifetime member of VFW Post 7980 in Millstadt, Ill. and an endowment member of the NRA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Lee and Helen Amy, nee Hackler, Halter.

Surviving are his wife, Ursula, nee Plein, Smith-Halter, whom he married on Dec. 12, 2003; children, Michelle (Stefan) Schneewolf, James Halter, Janine Halter, all of Berlin, Germany and Sabrina Wagoner of Belleville, Ill.; step-children, Van Smith of Tucson, Ariz., Mia (Roger) Zimmermann of Ferrin, Ill. and Michelle Smith of Centralia, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Lolita Selmke of Libertyville, Ill.; grandchildren, Kurt and Matthew Wagoner, Cheyenne and Kiono Selmke and Dean Halter; step-grandchildren, Beth and Jessica Mayer, Madison and Harrison Smith, Samantha and Katie Zimmermann and three step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Oct. 8 at 11:30 a.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. with Rev. Scott Niermann officiating. Full military honors will be accorded at the graveside. The Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt, Ill. is in charge of arrangements.
