Alice Miller, 101

Alice C. Miller, 101, of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 3, 2010 at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart. Ind.

She was born March 26, 1909, in Elkhart, Ind. the daughter of James R. and Edna A. (Stark) Lynn. On Feb. 13, 1932 she married Ray Daugherty, who preceded her in death on May 13, 1979. She was married on July 13, 1985 to Harry Miller who preceded her in death on April 10, 1991.

She was a member of Sugargrove Church and formerly attended and was a member of Jones United Methodist Church. She lived all of her life in Elkhart and Cass counties. She was a former member of Jones Improvement Association and a lifetime member of Friendly Pioneers in Elkhart, Ind. She also was a member of Sunshine Club, Cass County Council on Aging, and Birch Lake Embroidery Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (Richard) Gardner and Betty J. (James) Grames, both of Jones; one son, James E. (Leona) Daugherty of Jacksonville, Ark.; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; one step-son, Dale (Barbara) Miller of Racine, Wis.; one sister, Rachel Egar of Goshen, Ind. and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sons, Carl, Robert and Jack Daugherty.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8 at Mater Funeral Home, Marcellus, with Pastor Dale Brock of Sugargrove Church officiating. Burial will follow in Marcellus Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Sugargrove Church or Newberg Fire & Ambulance Service.
