GREGORY LEE SMITH, age 49, of Sturgis, Michigan passed unexpectedly
Saturday October 9, 2010 at his home.
He was born October 21, 1960 in Coldwater, Michigan a son of Robert and
Betty (Cornish) Smith.
He had resided in Sturgis for the past 20 years. Prior to coming to
Sturgis Greg had lived in Coldwater where he graduated of Coldwater High
School with the class of 1978. He continued his education at Tri State
University in Angola, Indiana where he received a Bachelor of Science
degree in Mechanical Engineering.
While residing in Coldwater Greg attended the First Baptist Church and
Sunday school.
He had been employed at several local companies while attending high
school and college, including Bob’s construction Company, L&S Products,
Borg Warner, an engineering firm in Bryan, Ohio and a number of years
with Burr Oak Tool and Gauge in Sturgis.
He is survived by his parents, Robert and Betty Smith of Coldwater, one
brother, Daryl Kirby (Pamela) Smith of Mesa, Arizona, one niece, Aubrey
M. Smith of Mesa, Arizona, one nephew, Thaddeus “T.J.” Smith of Tucson,
Arizona and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In accordance with family wishes cremation has taken place. The family
will receive friends from 1:00-2:45 P.M. Saturday at the Dutcher Funeral
Home, 440 W. Chicago St., Coldwater, MI. where a memorial service
celebrating the life of Gregory L. Smith will begin at 3:00 P.M.
Saturday. Pastor David Brown will officiate. Private burial of the ashes
will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater at a later date.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel of Sturgis is
entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations would be appreciated to the
charity of one’s choice.
