MELISSA A. (SMITH) NORDBY, age 46, of Mendon, Michigan, passed away
unexpectedly early Tuesday morning October 12, 2010 at her home.
She was born December 12, 1963 in San Angelo, Texas a daughter of
Leonard and Alma (Meade) Smith.
Melissa had resided in the Sturgis and Mendon area for the past 13 years
coming from Texas.
She had been employed as a home health aid for A-Plus Nursing in
Kalamazoo. She had also worked as a clerk at Kroger Grocery Store,
Miller’s Grocery Store both in Sturgis and Meijer and Wal-Mart both in
Three Rivers.
Melissa had recently become a member of the Sturgis Toy Run and she
enjoyed gardening and loved her many pets and all animals.
She is survived by two daughters, Christianne Smith of Sturgis and
Elizabeth Jasmine Smith of Sturgis, two grandchildren, Warrick Hamilton
and Garrett Smith, mother, Alma Smith of Sturgis, one sister, Brenda
(Gilbert) Ravelo of Royce City, Texas, two brothers, Brent Smith of
Coldwater and Michael (Jenny) Smith of San Angelo, Texas, her best
friend, Beth Hopkins of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews and great
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, Martha and Leo
Smith and Johnny and Pearl Meade and special friend, David Rios.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial
service and reciting of the Rosary will take place at 11:00 A.M.
Saturday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel of Sturgis is
entrusted with the arrangements.
