John Ringler, 85

JOHN ROBERT RINGLER, age 85, of Sturgis, Michigan passed away early
Friday morning October 15, 2010 at his home.

He was born May 30, 1925 in Stroh, Indiana a son of the late Harold and
Delpha (Reinhart) Ringler.

John was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High
School with the class of 1943.

On March 23, 1947 he married Joyce Maystead at her parent’s home in Sturgis.

 From 1947-1960 he had been employed by Wade Electric in Sturgis. For 40
years he had owned and operated Howe Auto Sales in Howe, Indiana
retiring in 2000.

John was proud to have served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII
earning the rank of Storekeeper 3^rd Class. While with the Navy he had
served aboard the USS Butler, Zane Grey Wooden Maradona, USS Evans, USS
San Diego, the General H.D. Butler Transport ship which was ship
transporting over 5000 troops. He also was aboard a Standard Oil Tanker
and was in charges of transporting guns.

He was a member of Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion, was an avid
fisherman and enjoyed tinkering with and repairing bicycles.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 63 years, Joyce, one
son, John Robert (C.J.) Ringler, Jr. of Edmond, Oklahoma, three
grandchildren, Jay Ringler of Dollar Bay, Michigan, Joel Ringler of
Kearsarge, Michigan and Celia (Brett) Pate of Edmond, Oklahoma, four
great grandchildren, Cameron, Nicklas, Cody and Paige and a great
grandchild expected in November.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Ringler.

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial
service celebrating the life of John Ringler will be held at 11:00 A.M.
Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S.
Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. The Rev. Robert Keim of
the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis will officiate. A graveside
committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where
full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post
#1355 VFW and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.

49091 or the First United Methodist Church, 200 Pleasant Ave., Sturgis,
MI 49091.
