Alvin LaMarr Bontrager, age 68 years and 10 days, of rural Mendon, died unexpectedly Wednesday Oct. 13, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wis.
Alvin was born Oct. 3, 1942, in Three Rivers, a son of Levi and Mary (Yoder) Bontrager. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
On Dec. 20, 1962, Alvin married Esther Marie Miller in Centreville. She survives, along with four sons, Solomon (Carolyn) Bontrager of Bloomington, Wis., Melvin (Velma) Bontrager, Marvin (Magdalena) Bontrager and Jonas (Lydia Ann) Bontrager, all of Sturgis; four daughters, Viola Mae (Jake) Eicher and Naomi (Ed) Kauffman, both of Mendon, Ruth (Amos, Jr.) Miller of Sturgis and Delilah Bontrager at home; 34 grandchildren; six brothers; and three sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his in-laws, David and Barbara Miller.
The family will receive friends Friday and Saturday at the Jake Eicher residence, 24985 Spring Creek Road, Mendon, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, followed by burial in the Old Order Amish Cemetery on Truckenmiller Road.
