Richard “Dick” L. Erow, Sr., 85, of Milford, Ind., died Oct. 15, 2010 in his home. He was born Nov. 2, 1924 in Plymouth, Ind. to Clarence and Grace (Drach) Erow. On Oct. 5, 1944 Dick married Bernice (Brockus), she survives.
Formerly of Three Rivers, Dick and his wife moved to Milford, Ind. 11 years ago. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards. He really liked woodworking and was quite the handy man. He retired from Rieth-Riley Construction 24 years ago. Dick was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he started the first Boy Scout Troop at Queen of Peace in Mishawaka, Ind. where he served as Scout Master for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge, Moose, and several country clubs. Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who loved and cherished his family. “Pow” as he was known by his grandchildren will be greatly missed.
Dick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bernice; four children, Richard L. (Susan) Erow, Jr. of Chesterton, Ind., Alan L. (Judy) Erow of Michigan City, Ind., Marilyn J. (Victor) Staton of Leesburg, Ind. and Teri L. (Don) Rumsey of Three Rivers. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a sister, Maxine (Paul) Christiansen of Plymouth, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Kevin Erow; a brother, Robert Erow.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 125 N. Harrison St., Warsaw, Ind. with Father Phil Devolder officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church.
