Clinton Lee Shafer, 84, of Three Rivers, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010 at the Palliative Care Unit of the Veterans Administration in Battle Creek. He was born on Dec. 8, 1925 the son of Clinton and Ellen (Brannan) Shafer. He grew up on the family farm west of Three Rivers.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. On Aug. 24, 1947 he married Dorothy Fosdick at the First Presbyterian Church in Three Rivers. He was employed by Medalist Standard Steel for more than 30 years, retiring in the late 80’s.
Mr. Shafer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his son John. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Peter) McDonough of Three Rivers and Elizabeth (Patrick) Dillon of Reading; his sister, Linda (Richard) Bolender of Venice, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Peter McDonough, Allison (Aaron) Metz, Morgan Shafer, Anne Shafer, Matthew (Deanna) Dillon, Erin Dillon and Ryan Dillon; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Brady Metz.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Shafer on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Hohner Funeral Home with the Rev. Brenda Deily officiating. Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, with Military Honors under the auspices of the American Legion Hice-Shutes Post #170.
