Helen Lyons, 79

Helen Frances Lyons, 79, of Sturgis, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at her home, after an extended illness.

She was born June 5, 1931, in Sturgis, a daughter of Fred and Alma (Brothers) Holtz.

She was a 1949 graduate of Sturgis High School. She had lived in the Sturgis area all her life. She owned the family farm for the past 51 years.

On Sept. 3, 1955, she married Paul E. Lyons in Sturgis. He preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2008.

She operated the family farm with her husband, and was also employed at Wade Electric Products from 1949-1961 and Ram Products from 1976-1992.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. She enjoyed knitting and crossword puzzles.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Lyons of Occoquan, Va., and Janna Lynn (Steven) Chambers of West Lafayette, Ind.; a son, Steven A. (Michelle) Lyons of Sturgis; two grandchildren, Connor and Alyssa Chambers; two sisters, Jean Holtz and Susan Holtz, both of Sturgis; a brother, Fred Holtz Jr. of Centreville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Linda Holtz and Judith Holliday.

Visitation is noon-2 p.m. Wednesday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Wicks of First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis officiating. Burial will follow in White Pigeon Township Cemetery in White Pigeon.
