Beulah Mitchell, 94

Beulah Viola Mitchell, age 94, of Leonidas, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

She was born Feb. 18, 1916, in Leonidas, a daughter of Ralph A. and Minnie B. (Harmon) Lawrence, and was a lifetime resident of Leonidas.

She attended the Hunt Country School. On Jan. 19, 1941, she married Justin Arthur Mitchell in Mendon. He died on Aug. 11, 1971.

Beulah was a homemaker, and had worked at the former Wakeman House in Mendon. She later worked for the Battle Creek Enquirer and baked many wedding cakes in her home for family and friends. She also enjoyed arts and crafts and flower gardening.

Beulah is survived by two sons and their spouses, Ralph and JoAnne Mitchell of Colon and Kevin and Rebecca Mitchell of Centreville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a niece, Patricia Stephenson of Sturgis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Theda Morris; a brother, Frances Lawrence; and a niece, Francis Everett.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and

6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at New Beginnings Church, 63022 M-66, Sturgis, with her son, the Rev. Kevin Mitchell, officiating. Burial will be in Leonidas Cemetery.
