Gertrude “Trudi” Sloan, age 88, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born in Washington, DC on Oct. 23, 1922, a daughter of Leon and Genevieve (Stoltzman) Wedding. Trudi graduated from St. Cecelia Acadamy Catholic School in Washington DC and attended the Dunbarton College in Washington. On Sept. 17, 1944, Trudi married Paul Sloan in Washington, DC. He preceded her in death Sept. 27, 1982.
Trudi was a founding member of St. Clare’s Catholic Church in Centreville. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family.
Surviving are her daughters Rosemary (DeWayne) Gest of Centreville, Sharon Nash of Portage, sons Paul (Margaret) Sloan of Portage, Jerry (Judy) Sloan of Hot Springs, ARK, brother David Wedding of Alexandria, VA, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter Debbie and brothers Leon and Paul Wedding.
Relatives and friends will be received Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at St. Clare’s Catholic Church in Centreville, where A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday. Father Mark J. Vyverman will officiate. Interment of Ashes will be at Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Clares Catholic Church.
