Jean E. Rutter, age 79, of Burr Oak, passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2011, at Sturgis Hospital.
She was born Aug. 12, 1931 in Bronson Township, a daughter of the late Earl and Nettie (Moon) Lane.
On March 27, 1979, she married Lyle Rutter in Las Vegas.
Jean was a homemaker and worked on the family farm for many years. She enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and also loved visiting casinos.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak.
Surviving are her children, Linda (Rick) Ultz and Patsy (Steve) Scott of Burr Oak, Penny (Rob Howe) Leister of McLeansboro, Ill., and James (Pat) King of Sturgis; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and brothers Rex Lane of White Pigeon and Donald (Mary) Lane of East Leroy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle, on Jan. 12, 2009; a son, Thomas King on Nov. 23, 1998; brothers John Lane, Robert Lane, Earl Lane, William Lane, and Richard Lane; a sister, Dorothy Hambright; and a great-grandson, Lawerance Ultz.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Home Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Jean Rutter will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 218 W. Main St., Burr Oak, with the Rev. Kurt Kuhlmann, officiating.
Interment and graveside services will follow in Burr Oak Cemetery, and a luncheon will follow interment at St. John’s Fellowship Hall.
The family suggests memorial donations be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
