Michael B. Yaros, 83, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday afternoon, Feb. 17, 2011, at his home.
He was born May 9, 1927, in Gary, Ind., a son of the late Mike and Marie (Grantz) Yaros.
Mr. Yaros had resided in Sturgis since 1972 coming from Muskegon where he graduated from Muskegon High School with the class of 1945. After serving his country with the U.S. Air Force during World War II he continued his education at Michigan State University in East Lansing receiving a bachelor degree in economics.
On Nov. 20, 1954, he married Marian Lysiak at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muskegon Heights.
At the time of his retirement he held the position of general manager at United Paper in Sturgis. Prior to joining United Paper he had been employed as a vice president with the Sturgis Foundry.
He was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and a former member of the Sturgis Exchange Club and the Klinger Lake Country Club and enjoyed volunteering his time with the Sturgis Hospital Popcorn Guild. Mr. Yaros was an avid reader, golfer and built custom golf clubs. He loved time spent with his wife, family and church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marian; three daughters, Suzanne (David) Sadler of League City, Texas, Laurel (Alan) Buckman of Kalamazoo and Pamela (Bruce) Rowland of Flat Rock; five grandchildren, Erica (Kevin) Fiur of Austin, Texas, Jessica Sadler of League City, Texas, Michael Buckman and Clark Buckman, both of Kalamazoo and Alicia Rowland of Flat Rock; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Susan (Vern) Gross of Grass Valley, Calif.; one brother, Roy (Delores) Yaros of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday. A memorial funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Angels Catholic Church, 402 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, followed by a luncheon to be served in the church fellowship hall. The Rev. German Perez-Diaz will officiate.
