Alan Saxman, 83

Alan I. Saxman, 83, of Springfield, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at his home.

Alan was born May 8, 1927, in Leonidas, a son of Wesley I. and Mabel E. (Troy) Saxman. He had been an area resident since 1948, coming from Leonidas, and was a graduate of Colon High School. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On Sept. 6, 1947, he was united in marriage to the former Betty L. Shannon, who survives.

Alan was employed with Consumers Energy as a lineman and supervisor for 40 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church, Delton V.F.W. #422, former member of Marshall Moose Lodge #676, American Legion #298 and a former member of the Sebring Elk’s #1529.

He enjoyed traveling, wintering with Betty in Sebring, Fla., golfing, fishing, hunting and bowling, and spending time with his step- great-granddaughter, Lily.

Surviving are children Linda K. (Phil) Daniel and William A.(Sherral) Saxman, both of Battle Creek; two grandchildren, Chris (Mary Alice) Brown and Kristi (Keith) Soraghan; two step-grandchildren, Lori (Jon) Halder and Jeff (Bridget) Daniel; six step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Saxman of Bellevue; and a sister, Julia Fitzgerald of Niles.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Saxman; and an infant sister.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
