Douglas Allen Mitchell, also known as Doug or Mitch, 65, of Summerville, S.C., previously of Mendon, husband of Diane Gail (Gossett) Mitchell, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Summerville Medical Center. Funeral services were held on April 15, 2011, at Miles Road Baptist Church, Burial will be private.
Doug was born on Nov. 25, 1945 in Sturgis, a son of the late Platt and Neva (Fiebelkorn) Mitchell. Most recently, he was employed by Capitol Coffee as a warehouse manager. Most of his life, he was self-employed in the construction business – he never was too far from his hammer or tool box, and he enjoyed his Corvettes and motorcycles. Doug always had a helping hand to those around him. His family and grandchildren were the most important to him.
Prior to Doug’s marriage to Diane, he was first married to Linda (Hupp) Mitchell, who preceded him in death in 1984. Their sons are Douglas “D.A.” Allen Mitchell II of Three Rivers and Chad (Maria) Mitchell of Colorado Springs, Colo.
He is also survived by his stepchildren, Tony (Michele) Kuczynski of Trenton and Jennifer Angel of Summerville, and foster son Eli McCulloch of Summerville; grandchildren Desiree, Amber and William Kuczynski, Ryan Emerson and Madyson Angel and Martin and Linda Mitchell; a brother, Phil (Sharon) Mitchell; and father-in-law Jerry (Juanita) Gossett.
