Robert Franklin “Bob” Baker, Sr., age 84 of Three Rivers, died Friday June 24, 2011 at Borgess Medical in Kalamazoo. He was born in Elkhart, IN on March 10, 1927 the son of Harold and Marjorie (Flynn) Baker. He was raised in the Constantine area, and later moved to Three Rivers where he was a member of the Three Rivers High School class of 1945. Bob served in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marines Corps from 1944-51. He worked for Clifton Engineering for over 42 years, retiring in 1989. Bob was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers where he served on the Executive Board. He was also a member of Hice-Shutes American Legion Post #170. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Bob was married to Wiletta Schaub on June 10, 1950 in Three Rivers. She survives along with two sons, Robert (Ann) Baker, Jr. of Three Rivers and Nick Baker of Roscommon; 5 grandchildren, Jonathan (Amy) Baker, Angela (Kurt) Kunz, and Alexander Baker all of Three Rivers, Brittany Baker and Brendan Baker of Roscommon; 6 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred (Laura) Baker of Constantine and Harold Baker of Lapeer; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Calvin Baker.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday June 30, 2011 at Riverside Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Maria Rutland officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Hice-Shutes American Legion Post #170.
