Robert Baker, 58

Robert R. Baker, 58, of Sturgis, died, as the result of a motorcycle accident in Ohio, on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson, with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date in Bronson Cemetery.

Robert was born May 8, 1953, in Coldwater, to Ralph and Myrtle (Finisy) Baker. Both preceded him in death.

Mr. Baker worked for many years as a millwright at Kirsch Company in Sturgis and most recently drove truck for Jayco in Topeka, Ind. Bob belonged to the Sturgis Eagles and his love of baseball kept him playing on the Kirsch ball teams for many years. He enjoyed kayaking and had bowled on different leagues over the years. Mr. Baker was an avid golfer, a dedicated U-M fan and also loved to watch all of the Detroit teams play sports.

Robert is survived by his brother, Bill Baker of Oklahoma; his sisters, Bonnie (Don) Henderson of Angola, Ind., Leslie Fisher of Auburn, Ind., Peggy Kubasiak of Albany, Ga., and Kathy (Dave) Fennell of Auburn, Ind.; his best friend and cat companion “Buddy”; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the family to help with funeral expenses.
