Jack Robbins, 89

Jack Edward Robbins, age 89, of Colon, passed away, July 1, 2011, at Sturgis Hospital.

Jack was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Colon, on the lot he now resides on. He was the son of the late Kenneth L. and Olive (Wattles) Robbins.

Jack lived in Colon until he was 14. Then he moved with his mother to Grosse Ile, where he graduated from high school in 1939. He moved back to Colon in 1945, and has lived there since.

On Aug. 8, 1944, he married Iona Harriet Bries in McIntosh, Minn.

Jack had worked at Willow Run Bomber Plant during World War II, Post Cereal of Battle Creek and later farmed near Colon until his retirement.

Jack was a member of the Colon United Methodist Church, Colon Sooner Club, Colon Masonic Lodge #73, Royal Arch #81, Life member of the Colon Historical Society, Battle Creek Round and Square Dance Association, Colon Area Anglers Association, and supported the Colon Foundation.

Jack liked to fish, hunt, spend time up north at the Sooner Club, play cards and spend time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Iona Robbins of Colon; two daughters, Jackie (Larry) Boals and Vicki (Gilbert) LeRoque, all of Sturgis;, a granddaughter, Susan (LeRoque) and husband James Davis of Monroe; two granddaughters-in-law, Kerry Stephens of Los Alamitos, Calif., and Lora (Mike) Ianucilli of South Whitley, Ind.; great-grandchildren Derrik Bankemper of Los Alamitos, and Nicholas, Michael and Jacob Bankemper of South Whitley; a first-cousin, George (Phyllis) Wattles of Colon; and five stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two grandsons, David Bankemper and Lee Elliott; and a brother, Kenneth Harry Robbins.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m. today at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon, with a Masonic service taking place at 8 p.m., conferred by the Colon Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Jack E. Robbins will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donald Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.

The family suggests those wishing to share a memorial donation to consider the Colon United Methodist Church building fund or the Colon Community Historical Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
