Barbara Jean Petoskey, age 72, of Mendon, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
She was born Feb. 6, 1939, in Battle Creek, a daughter of Wayne and Sarah (Thomas) Sallows. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and later worked at Lakeview Hospital before operating an in-home day care center for several years.
Barbara was married to Brazil L. Petoskey on Aug. 20, 1961. They resided in St. Joseph and Kalamazoo before moving to Mendon in 1981. She enjoyed camping and travels with her family, and was a talented artist, especially drawings.
Barbara is survived by two children and their spouses, Brian (Regina) Petoskey and Dawn (Jody) Gest, both of Centreville; four grandchildren, Nathan and Eric Petoskey and Jordan and Kayla Gest; several nieces and nephews, including Sharon Wilkens and Rosie Ebbinghaus. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Brazil in 2009.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clint Zehr officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
