Howard L. Harvey, age 81, of Mesick, and formerly of Colon, passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at the home of his daughter-in-law Judy Harvey in Sherwood.
Howard was born March 8, 1930, in Battle Creek, a son to the late George R. and Gladys V. (Hackman) Harvey.
On Feb. 2, 1947, he married Phyllis J. Eberhard in Centreville. She preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 2009.
Howard had worked for Post Cereal in Battle Creek for 34 years retiring in 1984, he had also farmed with his brother Eugene.
Howard was a big Detroit Tiger fan. He loved his home in Mesick where he enjoyed feeding the deer, turkey and bear, and mushrooming in the spring.
He is survived by two daughters, Connie (Ed) Snyder and Kathy (Ron) Shotko, both of Colon; one son, Mike (Sue) Harvey of Athens; daughter-in-law, Judy Harvey of Sherwood; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Maxine (Albert) Schrock of Shelbyville, Ill., Joanne (Ben) LaForce of Leonidas, Joyce Coburn of Burr Oak, Gloria Dovey of Nottawa; one brother; Millard Earl (Martine) Harvey of Colon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Raymond L. Harvey; grandson, Raymond L. Harvey II; three brothers, Stanley G. Harvey and Eugene L. Harvey, and Melvin F. Harvey; and sister Wilma Persing.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Howard L. Harvey will take place Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011 at 1 p.m. from the funeral home with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating. Cremation will follow. A graveside service and burial of ashes will take place at a later date at the Yuma Cemetery in Yuma, Mich
