Leonard “Len/Lenny” Adam Macey, 83, of Three Rivers, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at his home following a battle with cancer. He was born in Linden, N.J., on Nov. 4, 1927, the son of the late John and Mary (Potonuck) Macey.
Leonard served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1947 with an honorable discharge as Sergeant. Leonard married his sweetheart Phyllis Falbo on April 24, 1948, in Carbondale, Pa. They resided in Nutley, N.J. following their marriage. They moved to Three Rivers in 1954 after the birth of their twin daughters, to raise their girls in a small town. Len worked for Continental Can Company as a general foreman for over 30 years. He and Phyllis retired to glorious Florida in 1977 and returned to Three Rivers in 2004.
Len was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Three Rivers, and also involved with the Knights of Columbus. While the girls attended I.C. school, he played Santa Claus to the Sisters of St. Joseph bearing steaks and cash to brighten their holidays. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Brookville, Fla., and Three Rivers, where he served as Chaplain for a short time. Leonard was a very accomplished golfer and belonged to High Point Golf Course of Brooksville, and Sauganash Country Club of Three Rivers. He had several hole in ones.
Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis; his parents; one brother, John; three sisters, Mary, Helene, and Barbara; one nephew, John Macey.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory three daughters, Carol (Richard) Harden of Three Rivers, Joanie (Gene) Dunnington of Schoolcraft and Jeanie (Dave) Sluder of Three Rivers; his sister, Teresa (Freddy) Hoagland of Florida; 10 grandchildren, Stephen (Anna), Deana (Pat), Tracy (Gary), Jennifer (Dave), Robert, John, Joshua (Sara), Elie, Dustin and Amanda; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends. He will be dearly missed.
Cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Mass of celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Fr. Mark Vyverman as celebrant. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be held in Moorepark Cemetery following the service, with family only.
