Ojars Staks, 86

Ojars Staks, 86, of Three Rivers, formerly of Chicago, Ill., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home. He was born Feb. 11, 1925 in Riga, Latvia the son of Arvids and Alma (Teteris) Staks.

Mr. Staks served his country as a corporal in the Latvian military during WWII. He eventually moved to the United States and settled in Chicago, Ill., where he opened and operated an electronics store for several years, before retiring and moving to the Three Rivers area in 1988. Ojars was a member of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church of Kalamazoo.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Biruta Staks.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving friends, Gundars and Astrida Strautnieks & Erik and Konrad Voits, as well as many friends in and around his community.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Hohner Funeral Home, with Rev. Biruta Puike of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.

Memorials may be donated to the Latvian Center GAREZERS, Inc. or the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church of Kalamazoo. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
