Judson P. “Jud” Hoopingarner, age 56, of Portage, passed away September 11, 2008 at his residence. Jud was born November 6, 1951 in Three Rivers, the son of John and Nancy (Hoffman) Hoopingarner. He grew up in Constantine where he graduated from high school in 1970 and graduated from W.M.U. with a Bachelors Degree in 1977. Jud has lived in Portage for the past 28 years and was owner/operator of Top Notch Counters. He enjoyed sports and was a member of the “chain gang” for Portage Central’s football games for several years; he enjoyed coaching his sons in Little League and had served as Director of Baseball for South Portage Little League; he also enjoyed golfing and boating. Jud was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife Victoria “Vicky” Wagner to whom he was married on October 31, 1970; also surviving are 2 sons, Michael (Aubrie) Hoopingarner and Jared (Heather) Hoopingarner, all of Portage; a grandson Brayden Hoopingarner and a brother John “Curt” (Jackie) Hoopingarner of Atlanta, GA; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 o’clock Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. with the Rev. James Dyke officiating. Friends may meet the family on Monday morning at 9:30 am at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy memorial contributions in Jud’s memory may be made to South Portage Little League.
