Anna Stauffer, 90

Anna Stauffer, age 90, of Burr Oak, passed away, Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at her home.

Anna was born Sept. 30, 1920, in rural Centreville, a daughter of the late Sam N. and Fannie (Bontrager) Bontrager.

On May 12, 1945, she married Christopher J. Stauffer in Sturgis. He preceded her in death Aug. 4, 1975.

Anna had lived in St. Joseph County all of her life, except for 10 years she lived in Arkansas as a child. She had worked for the County Farm for several years and later for M&M Grill in Colon, where she worked as a cook for 23 years and was well known for her delicious pies. She and her late husband Chris, owned and operated Colon Zephyr Service from 1962 to 1975. She was known for her unyielding faith, her generous nature, and warm and loving personality.

She is survived by three daughters, Nanci (Lester) Schwartz of Sturgis, Marie (Frank) Fisher of Colon and Shirley Nash of Colon; grandchildren Doug (Nancy), David (Melanie) and Clint (Rose) Schwartz, Rob (Penny) Fisher, Anita (Matt) Sholl, Nicole (Kevin) Edson, Shanelle (Randy) Friel and Kevin (Amy) Nash; great-grandchildren Josh (Kalene), Sarah, Jesse and Seth Schwartz; Devin (Samantha), Dustin, and Marissa Schwartz; Michael, Anna, John Michael, Ben and Rebekah Schwartz; Bailey and Mason Fisher; Cody Johnson; Johnathon and Brady Sholl; Franklin Edson; Tim, Jackie and Austin Friel; and Abby, Carson and Logan Nash; four brothers, Henry (Dorothy) Bontrager, of Lancaster, Wis., Menno Bontrager of Burr Oak, William Bontrager of Goshen, Ind. and Amos (Lillian) Bontrager of Goshen, Ind.; two sisters, Lizzie (Albert) Hochstelter of Sturgis and Edna (Tobias) Yoder of Mendon; a sister-in-law, Mary Bontager of Macolm, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Rueben, Christ and Levi; and two sisters, Katie and Nancy and great-grandson Jonathan Schwartz.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Findley.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor Bill Beck officiating. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the family for medical expenses or to the Locust Grove Church. Arrangements by Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
