Janet Elizabeth Douglas, age 86, of Sturgis, passed away, Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
Janet was born April 21, 1925, in Sturgis, a daughter to the late Sterling and Helen (Loetz) Winings.
Janet graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in Lansing and furthered her education at Western Michigan University, receiving a bachelor of arts degree.
On June 14, 1947, Janet married William Douglas in Lansing.
Janet was a homemaker and also had worked as a social worker for Friend of the Court in Centreville and also at the Coldwater State Home.
She had lived most all her adult life in Sturgis and was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church of Sturgis. Janet enjoyed buying and selling antiques.
She is survived by her husband, William Douglas of Sturgis; two children, Sharland Douglas and husband Ken Hebenstreit of Royal Oak and Ted Douglas and wife Sharon, of Saline; and three grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at a later date. The family was assisted by the Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
